Buying advicePrime Day: Tamron 70-180 G2 for £1,049. I dont need it. Talk me out of it

Ok so. Posting from the Northern line so forgive the typos. The Tamron 70-180 G2 is down to £1,049 for Prime Day, which is honestly a silly price for a 2.8 tele zoom. I've got the 85 GM II I bought in Feb (which I said was the last lens, I know, I know) and I shoot portraits and a bit of street, the odd wedding as a guest. I do not own a 70-200 and Ive managed fine for years.

But. Weddings. Theatre. My nieces dance recital that I get roped into every single summer. Someone please talk me out of it before 6pm or I'm doing it

For a dance recital the 70-180 is very good choice. I use the 70-200 GM II for work, but if I paid my own money again for occasional use, I would buy the Tamron. It is lighter and the family will not see a difference in the photos.

No prime does what that does from row M at a dance recital. Buy it.

Arrived Thursday, took it to the recital last night. It extends when you zoom which I somehow didnt clock, but its light enough that I didnt want to throw it in the Thames by the interval. Loads of keepers from the back at 180 f/2.8 and ISO 3200. Niece is thrilled. I am poorer
