Ok you guys, I have the original R8 and I've complained about no IBIS and no joystick in literally every thread lol, and Canon finally did both. 24.2MP, IBIS, joystick, and it's styled like the old EOS 650 from the 80s apparently? $1,899 body.

The retro look is cute but I don't need cute, I need my 85 to stop being blurry at 1/60 in the living room at 7pm. Is this worth upgrading or am I just excited because it's new? I'd sell my R8 to pay for it.

IBIS will help with your hands. It won't help with your kids moving. At 1/60 indoors you're probably getting both. Worth knowing before you spend $1,900.

Easy test tonight: put the R8 on a table or a shelf with the self-timer, photograph a kid at 1/60, then do the same handheld. If the tripod-ish one is still blurry, it's subject motion and IBIS won't save you. In that case a faster shutter, a bit more ISO and that reflector you got will do more than a new body.

Not telling you not to buy it. The joystick alone would be worth it to me on a small body, and IBIS makes the 85 far nicer for anything static, like the kids asleep on the sofa or the tree at Christmas. Just go in knowing what it fixes and what it doesn't, so you're not disappointed at 7pm on the first night.

Coming from an RP, this is the first Canon in ages I've actually wanted. I like the look, sorry! The joystick is what sells it for me though, moving the focus point on the RP with gloves on is miserable.

Update: I pre-ordered it. My husband says I have no self control. He is correct lol. The R8 is going to my sister, so it's staying in the family which makes it ok right? I tried the table test rawtherapist said and it was about half and half, so IBIS will fix some of them and the 1/125 will fix the rest
