R6 II all day for hockey. Bigger battery, dual card slots, and a better grip with a 70-200 hanging off it. The R8 II finally got IBIS but it's still built around a smaller body. I've shot a lot of events on R6 IIs, they're workhorses.
If the budget stretches, R6 III. I came from the R6 for sport and tracking in traffic is a big step up, it stays on the right player when two of them cross. Rolling shutter is much better too if you ever use electronic. If not, R6 II over the R8 II for the grip.
r6 iii is way over what i want to spend. leaning r6 ii

This, the R8 bodies are nice but they're small with a big lens on the front and you'll be hand holding that 70-200 for an hour, I went R7 from the 90D and the grip is the only reason I can hold the 100-400 all morning
got a used r6 ii, 9k clicks. first game sunday
