If the readout is anything like the III then rolling shutter won't be an issue for video. Would like to see numbers though. I shoot a bit of video on the side at basketball and the R6 III's electronic shutter has been fine for that.
DiscussionR6 V with no viewfinder and no mechanical shutter. Has Canon lost the plot?

So would everyone. Give it a month.

Yeah and half of them are squinting. No EVF makes sense for vlogging, I get it, but in the Aussie sun I can barely see my a6700 screen at the beach, let alone run a whole shoot off one. Hard no for me
Fun thread, but let's keep it about the camera and not each other's eyesight. Let's keep it civil, folks.
Bit more considered now I've read the full spec sheet. For anyone doing weddings or events video, the interesting parts are the fan, which should mean it records as long as the card lasts, the 20-50 power zoom, and the fact it'll sit alongside an R6 III without anyone learning a new system. That combination is what we've all been building rigs around for years: stills body, cage, monitor, gimbal, and still worrying about heat in a stuffy church.
Where I'd push back on Canon is price. $2,499 is fine in the US, but by the time it lands here with VAT it's the same money as an S5 II and a decent lens, and the S5 II has a viewfinder for when you do want one. So no, they haven't lost the plot, but I wouldn't buy one over the Panasonic for my own work. If you're already all in on RF glass it's a different sum entirely and I'd probably buy one. I would say that, mind.
That is the clearest explanation anyone has offered, thank you. I remain unconvinced, but at least I understand it now.
Kind regards

late to this but as someone running an FX3 for a channel: the fan is the reason I bought the FX3 over an A7 IV. Canon doing the same in this form factor is the real story. no EVF is a non issue for video
Update: my video guy ordered one. Arrives next week. I'll report back after the first wedding with it. It's a hot barn venue in June, so if anything's going to find out about the fan it's that.
As promised. Two weddings in and my video guy loves it. No heat warnings in a stuffy barn in June, the screen's fine indoors and he runs a monitor outside anyway. I still wouldn't shoot stills on it.

Thank you for reporting back, that is useful. I shall simply quote this line in future. Best of luck to your colleague with it.
Hi, sorry to bump an old thread. I have the R50 V for vlogging and I'm starting to want better low light. Would the R6 V be the natural upgrade or is that overkill? I don't really use a viewfinder anyway because the R50 V doesn't have one.

Then you're exactly who it's for. It's a big jump in price and lens cost though. Rent one for a weekend before you commit. And look at the lens cost before the body, the R50 V lenses will work but you'll want full frame glass to get the low light you're after.
