Wedding season prep. I want to start running a locked-off wide on the R6 II for the whole ceremony while I shoot stills on the R6 III. Ceremonies here run 30 to 45 minutes, sometimes a full hour if it's a Catholic mass.

What are you all doing for power and cards on a long continuous take? Dummy battery off a power bank? And how are you dealing with the file splits, is it seamless in the edit?

Dummy battery and a USB-C PD bank gaffer taped to the tripod leg. Check the bank actually puts out enough watts for the dummy, a cheap phone bank sometimes doesn't and the camera just shuts off at minute 20.

Big card, and drop to a lower bitrate codec, you don't need your best 10-bit ALL-I for a locked wide. A long-GOP 4K file at a sane bitrate is plenty for a backup angle, and an hour of it fits on a card you can afford. Flip the screen out if your camera runs warmer with it closed, and keep it out of direct sun through the church windows.

And bring a second card even for the locked-off. If one fails mid ceremony you want to be able to swap it in thirty seconds during a reading, not hunt for one in the bag.

File splits line up fine in Resolve with no gap, at least on my Lumix. Can't speak for Canon, test it at home with a 45 minute recording of your living room before the first wedding, not on the day.

Second the power bank. Also stick a note on the camera so the venue guy doesn't 'helpfully' switch it off halfway through. Happened to a friend of mine during the vows.

And from the business side: if you're adding a ceremony film, price it as a line item, don't throw it in free. Once clients see video they'll ask for it next time, and a locked-off wide is a really easy upsell for a couple hundred dollars.

Following this because I keep getting asked to film my friends' ceremonies on my R8 and I honestly have no idea what I'm doing lol. Last time I just had it on a little tripod on the front pew and it stopped recording after a while and I didnt notice until the kiss. You guys are so helpful, I had no idea about the dummy battery thing!
