Well here it is. 32.5MP, 40fps, 7K RAW Light, about $2,799 body. I'm running two R6 IIs for weddings and they've been rock solid for three seasons, so for me the question isn't whether it's better, it's whether it's better enough to replace a body that's never let me down.

The extra resolution is nice for cropping group shots. The 7K stuff I don't care about at all. Also saw there's a cheap RF 45mm f/1.2 STM? Haven't looked properly yet. R6 II owners, what are you doing?

32.5MP is a sensible number. Enough for a real crop, small enough that the files don't punish your storage. What I'd want answered is what the faster readout costs in base ISO dynamic range, but nobody will know that for weeks.

Some context for people reading the spec sheet: faster readout usually means some compromise somewhere, and historically it's been a little shadow noise at base ISO. For weddings and events that's irrelevant. For landscape, where you're lifting shadows four stops on a backlit scene, it can matter. Then there's storage, which nobody budgets for. If you shoot raw at 40fps you'll fill cards and drives faster than you expect, and card prices aren't moving in the right direction. I'd shoot compressed raw on this body for anything with action and keep full uncompressed for the work where you'll actually push files. None of that is a criticism. It's simply what a fast camera costs to run.

This matters more than people think. A wedding on two bodies is already 4,000+ frames. I'm not doubling my backup drives for a spec sheet. Every wedding gets three copies before I sleep. More pixels means more drives, more cloud, more time.

nice camera but where is the R7 II mate, crop shooters getting nothing again, 40fps on full frame is great but for birds I need the reach and the R7 is getting a bit long in the tooth tbf, ive been out at Middleton Lakes every weekend this autumn and its fine but I see the R5 II lads next to me getting keepers I'm missing

Forty frames a second. Back in my day we had six and we liked it.

Congrats Canon folks... seriously, it looks like a solid update. I'll stop picking on you for at least a week. IMHO the R6 line has always been the sensible Canon. My neighbor two doors down shoots his granddaughter's volleyball with an R6 II and I've never once heard him complain, which for a retired machinist is saying something.

Agree. Not switching, too much RF glass. Leaning toward buying one in January after the last of the season and keeping one R6 II as the backup. Never change bodies in the middle of wedding season, learned that one the hard way years ago.

Couldn't wait that long. Late here but I've had mine since mid December, came from the original R6. AF on basketball is noticeably better and I've mostly stopped worrying about rolling shutter on the electronic shutter. Battery life about the same as before. Happy with it.

Picked mine up last week as well, kept one R6 II as the backup like I said. First job with it on Saturday, a winter wedding in a very dark stone church, no flash allowed during the ceremony.

It did fine. I ran it at ISO 6400 to 12800 for the processional and the files cleaned up well with the usual denoise. Buttons and card setup are close enough to the R6 II that I didn't have to think about it mid-ceremony, which honestly is all I ask from a new body. The extra pixels helped exactly where I expected, cropping the back rows of group shots. Only change I made was rebuilding the custom modes from scratch instead of trusting the settings transfer.

My second shooter has the R6 II now and the colour matches close enough that I'm not fixing it in post. Season starts in April, I'll know properly by June.
