got the plain canon ef-eos r adapter with my used r6. using it with the ef 70-200 2.8 iii at my daughters hockey, works fine. is the control ring version worth it or is that just for video people. also heard canon stopped making the ef 70-200 2.8, should i be worried about repairs

The control ring version is handy if you want exposure comp or ISO on a ring, but with a 70-200 at a rink your left hand is already busy. The plain adapter is fine. On the discontinuation, Canon normally keeps servicing lenses for years after they stop making them, so I wouldn't lose sleep. Shoot it until it stops being useful.
