It's the laptop, not the codec in any meaningful sense. H.265 10-bit 4:2:2 is something a lot of older hardware can't decode in hardware. Most GPUs and integrated graphics from around 2020 handle 4:2:0 H.265 fine but not the 4:2:2 variant, so Premiere falls back to the CPU and crawls. That's the slideshow you're seeing.

You have three options. Shoot ALL-I, which scrubs much more easily but is several times the size, and with card prices where they are now that's an expensive way to fix an editing problem. Shoot 4:2:0 IPB, which your machine will likely play fine but gives up a little colour information, and for gig footage under stage lights you probably want that information. Or keep shooting what you shoot and make proxies on ingest.

Make proxies. Premiere can do it automatically when you import, you edit on the light files and it relinks to the originals on export. Costs you a coffee break per gig, nothing more.
