Ok so you guys, I saw Canon put out a 45mm f/1.2 that's an STM one and not an L, so it's actually priced like a normal-person lens?? Apparently the preorders went really fast. I have the 50 1.8 and the 85 f/2 macro on my R8 and I mostly shoot my two kids and the occasional family session for friends, always natural light by the big window in our living room lol. Is 1.2 going to be a huge difference from 1.8 or is that just me wanting a new toy? And is 45 too close to 50 to bother? Would love to hear from anyone who's preordered or seen proper reviews, I honestly can't tell which YouTube ones to trust anymore
QuestionCanon's new 45mm f/1.2 STM for kids and family stuff on an R8?

Yes, if you keep the 50. It'd be a replacement, not an addition. Wait for real reviews and actual raw files from people who aren't being sent it for free, man. Launch week hype isn't a review.
f/1.2 indoors with kids running around is going to be a lot of sharp ears and soft eyes. ask me how i know (i don't, i shoot gigs, but same deal lol). depth of field at 1.2 and 45mm a couple metres away is a few cm, so a kid leaning forward is enough. i end up at 1.8 or 2 most nights anyway with my 50, the extra stop is nice to have but i barely use it
Lol ok the soft eyes thing is fair. I'll wait for reviews and maybe sell the 50 if I go for it. Thanks you guys!
