Newsnikon vs viltrox, are we losing cheap z lenses?

I read the same, but I could not find anything official from Nikon, only the rumour sites copying each other. If true it is bad for Z users. Cheap AF primes were one reason my friend chose Z over Canon last year, because with Canon he could not buy them at all.

I don't think Nikon will stop all third party lenses, Sigma and Tamron are still there with licence. It is more about who copies the protocol without paying. But for beginners on small budget it is sad.

IMHO Nikon's protecting the S-line and I can't entirely blame them, even if I don't love it. They spent a fortune designing that mount and the protocol, and it's their call who uses it. Same as Canon with RF, folks just notice it more with Nikon because the Z mount was open-ish for a while.

If there's a third party lens you've had your eye on, I'd buy it now rather than later.
