Out the door at 5 on Saturday, first proper frost of the year up the Harthope Valley under the Cheviot. Bloody freezing, -3 on the car, and for once the forecast was right.

Four I'm torn between for a print for the hall:

  1. Burn running through frosted grass, low and wide on the 24-70, just as the sun clipped the top of Hedgehope. Rim light on every blade. Bit busy maybe.
  2. A single hawthorn halfway up the slope, 70-200 at about 150mm, mist sitting behind it in the valley. Quietest of the lot.
  3. The sheep. Six of them stood in a line along a wall all staring at me like I owed them money. My lass likes this one best.
  4. Long shot back down the valley at 200mm, layers of hills going blue to grey, frost only on the near ones.

Z6 II, everything handheld, too cold to faff with the tripod honestly. Leaning towards 2 but I keep going back to 4. Which would you hang?

Two, without much thought. Single tree, mist, and long lens compression usually prints well because there's space for the eye to rest. Four is lovely on a screen but layered hills can go a bit flat on matte paper unless you're careful with the contrast.

Cheers
