- Used OM-1 (first one) under a grand now, worth jumping from the GX9?
Slightly off topic (sorry) but if you do get one, try a macro lens on it at some point. The focus bracketing on the OM bodies is (in my extremely biased opinion (very biased)) the best reason to own…
Post #5, in Panasonic/OM - Extension tubes on the RP for frosty leaves, or save for a proper macro lens?
Tubes are a great cheap way in (I started with tubes and a kit lens before I lost all self-control). Two things though. You lose light (so your shutter speeds drop just when you're cold and shaky)…
Post #2, in Lenses - Forty minutes in one beech wood
A foam gardening kneeler changed my life (a sentence I never thought I'd type on a camera forum).
Post #6, in Showcase - Forty minutes in one beech wood
Oh this is a lovely little haul! From the descriptions (and with the usual caveat that fungi ID from words is a fool's game): The translucent white ones high on fallen beech are almost certainly…
Post #2, in Showcase - Clocks go back in three weeks. What do you actually shoot on winter weeknights?
Or bugs! Indoor focus stacking is my whole winter. Mushrooms brought home from the weekend (Mycena if I can find them, the tiny bonnet ones), or whichever spiders have moved into the shed for the…
Post #8, in Lounge - The PEN is back! OM System PEN with an EVF and weather sealing
(Nerd note: the 60mm macro on a sealed PEN would make a very cute little bug rig for wet mornings. I am not buying another camera. I am not buying another camera. (I might buy another camera.))
Post #6, in Panasonic/OM - Panasonic 'exit' rumours again. Is MFT dying or just shrinking?
Depth of field at macro distances on MFT is a feature, not a bug (fight me). At 1:1 on full frame you're working with a sliver of focus so thin that a jumping spider's front eyes are sharp and its…
Post #9, in Panasonic/OM - Bugs with the 85mm macro + flash = everything looks shiny and gross lol
Yes! That's specular highlights from a small hard light source, and the black background is the flash overpowering the ambient (so anything behind the bug falls off to midnight). Diffusion matters…
Post #2, in Macro - Six months of jumping spiders (sorry, again)
Platycryptus are sweethearts, agreed. Gerald vanished for two days this week and I was genuinely worried, but he's back (a smaller one has moved in at the other end of the rail, there may be drama)…
Post #8, in Showcase - Six months of jumping spiders (sorry, again)
I'll take it (it's a sour cream and onion tube, if that helps the authenticity)
