I'm on the annual plan paid monthly and I want out, ive barely opened Lightroom since I started scanning at home and editing in the scanning software. Went to cancel and it says there's a fee for leaving early which is like half of what's left on the year?? is there a way round it or do I just have to wait it out
QuestionHow much does it actually cost to cancel Adobe?

Yeah thats the annual paid monthly trap. Theres a two week window after it renews where you can cancel for nothing, otherwise you pay. I set a calendar reminder for mine every year and then never cancel lol
This is exactly why I paid the year up front and then just binned it at the end. Costs the same over a year, near enough, and you can walk away when it runs out without them taking another penny. Daylight robbery the monthly one.

two weeks after renewal. mine renewed in january 😩
so thats 9 more months of paying for something I dont use
people are dramatic about subscriptions but the cancellation fee thing is genuinely scummy, i'll give you that one. someone said there was a settlement in the US over it recently, no idea if that changes anything over there

It's the business model, not a side effect. Make leaving expensive and confusing and enough people stay. Every subscription product works out roughly how many people will forget, how many will give up halfway through the cancel screens, and prices accordingly.
Which is the argument for owning your software that I'll keep making whether anyone listens or not. Hannah, you've already done the hard part, you've stopped using it. Whatever you're editing scans in now is doing the job. If you ever do need a raw editor again, a perpetual licence of something, or darktable for nothing, means you never have this conversation with a cancel button again.
Go through the cancel steps anyway, right to the last screen. A mate did and they offered him two months free to stay, which at least takes the sting out... Not saying they will for you, but it's worth a click. Worst case you've wasted five minutes. Best case you get a bit of breathing room and you can try something else in the meantime without paying twice.

Tried it, got offered two months free. Taking it, then setting a reminder for january like OneMoreLens. Who will then remind me because I wont
I wont
Or switch it to annual prepaid at the next renewal and the problem goes away. You'd still be paying for something you don't use, mind.
