QuestionA7C II or A7 V for travel, is the size difference actually noticeable in a bag?

Been on an a6400 for about five years and its done me proud, but I want full frame before a big trip next spring (Patagonia, lots of walking, one bag for everything). Narrowed it down to the A7C II or the A7 V. The price gap is a fair chunk but I could stretch to it.

Thing I cant work out from photos online is whether the size difference actually matters once its in a bag with a lens on. The A7C looks tiny on paper but everyone says the lens is the big bit anyway. Has anyone carried both? Mostly landscapes, a bit of people in towns, no video really.

had the a7c ii a year. body is small, the lens isn't. with the tamron 28-75 on it it's not a small camera any more. with the 50 1.4 it's great. depends what you put on the front more than anything

I have the A7 V, and had a friend's A7C II for a weekend. In the bag the difference is less than you expect, the V is taller because of the viewfinder hump and the grip is deeper, that is most of it. You notice it more in the hand. The V has the bigger and nicer EVF and more dials, the C's viewfinder is the one thing everybody complains about.

For landscapes and people in towns the A7C II will not hold you back. AF on the V is better on things that move, but you said no sport. The money difference buys you a good lens.

Did the W in Torres del Paine last year with the A7CR and the 20-70 f/4 in a chest pouch. The whole thing is about a kilo and I never once took it off, which I don't think I'd say about a bigger body. On the trail what matters is whether it fits where you want to carry it, not whether it fits in the bag.

Also the wind down there is no joke. Bring a lens cloth, then bring another one.

Rafa's answer is the one that matters. The camera you don't leave in the bag.

Honestly I'd get the A7C II and spend the difference on a decent zoom, Sigma or Tamron, theyre as good as native for nearly everyone. I say this as someone who owns an R V and swore blind I didnt need it lol

Do try the C's viewfinder in a shop first though. Some people really hate it, some never notice.

This is the bit I care about tbh, the a6400 lives in the bag half the time because I cant be bothered getting it out. Going to try both in a shop in town at the weekend with a 20-70 on and see which one I actually want to hold. Cheers all
