I have used the Q2 in autofocus for city work, but in winter evening the AF is sometimes late for people crossing my frame. I want to try zone focus at 28mm. What distance and aperture do you set, and do you trust the scale on the lens or the screen? I prefer not to think when I walk.
28mm, f/8, focus at about 2.5m. Everything from roughly 1.5m to 6m is sharp enough for the street. Trust the scale, not the screen, because you won't be looking at the screen. Set it once at the start of the walk, then forget about it and just look at people.
In winter evenings you'll need the ISO for f/8. Let it go to 6400, or open to f/5.6 and pull focus in to 2m. Grain is fine. A late photo is not.
The bigger change is how you walk. With zone focus you stop waiting for the camera, so you'll start shooting earlier, the moment someone steps into the frame instead of a beat after. That beat is the difference. Took me a month to trust it. Never went back to AF on the street. One last thing: tape the focus ring if it moves in your bag. Ask me how I know.
