QuestionGR IIIx or GR IV for someone who's never had a GR?

Never owned a GR. I shoot street mostly on my phone and an RX100 VII that I hardly ever carry, because by the time I've zoomed to where I want the moment's gone. I'm in Philly, mostly downtown and the Italian Market on weekends.

Torn between the GR IV (28mm) and a GR IIIx (40mm) while I can still find one, since Ricoh said IIIx production is ending. 40 feels more natural to me, I crop most of my phone shots in. But the IV is the newer camera. And now there's a GR IVx in development which complicates everything.

Wait, or buy one now? And which?

That's not a sign you want 40. That's a sign you're standing too far back. Get closer. 28, snap focus at 2m, and you'll never look back. Buy the IV.

I have the IIIx and use it more than my X-T5. If 40 feels natural, buy the 40. Ignore anyone who tells you there's a correct street focal length.

Not a GR person (X100VI all day!) but the IVx is only a development announcement so far. Ricoh said winter at the earliest and there's no price or spec sheet. By the time anyone in the US actually has one it could easily be spring. If you want to shoot now, I wouldn't wait on a camera that doesn't exist yet!

Kind of what I needed to hear honestly. A shop near me still has a IIIx, so I'm going to go and handle it this weekend.

You will be. 40's a fine place to start. Just don't come back in six months asking about the 28.
